GREEN space management charity The Land Trust, based in Warrington, has won won a prestigious award from the High Sheriff of Cheshire.

At the High Sheriff’s Awards for Enterprise, held at an Oscars-style black-tie dinner at Chester Racecourse on Thursday night, the Land Trust bagged the Award for Responsible Business Practice, an award sponsored by Warrington Borough Council.

The Land Trust, based in Birchwood, maintains sites in Warrington such as Westbrook Community Orchard, owns sites all over the country such as the Countess of Chester Country Park in Chester, and recently created Port Sunlight River Park in Wirral on the site of a former landfill.

The charity’s aim is to develop green spaces to maximise the benefits to communities and the environment, ranging from health and wellbeing activities and voluntary work to improving wildlife habitat and biodiversity.

Euan Hall, chief executive of the Land Trust, said: “It’s fantastic to have our work recognised by the Cheshire High Sheriff Awards. Although we are a national land management charity, our heart is very much in Cheshire and Warrington. Well-managed green spaces are so important for public health and well-being, particularly in urban areas. Last year nearly 55,000 people joined in guided walks or took part in healthy activities on Land Trust country parks or estates, and we are hoping for even more this year. This award is a great endorsement for our community–focused approach to managing public land.”
