THE Fun Lovin’ Criminals are coming to Warrington to headline this year’s free GS Warrington Music Festival!

This year’s event – the eleventh for the festival – will again be hosted and organised by Golden Square Shopping Centre, in conjunction with Steve Oates, who has been involved with the festival since he founded it in 2007.

The 2018 celebration of music will kick off at midday on Saturday, May 5, and culminate in what is sure to be a historic moment for the festival and town – a set by the multi-million selling international artists, Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

The free Bank Holiday Saturday event – believed to be the biggest free, ticketless music festival in the North West – will also feature performances from dozens of up-and-coming bands, before the iconic stars take to the stage to headline the festival.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to announce such huge stars will be playing at this year’s GS Warrington Music Festival,” said Ian Cox, Centre Director of Golden Square. “They are coming as a part of their UK and European tour this summer, and we’re incredibly lucky and excited that they agreed to be a part of our free celebration of music.”

Golden Square has been a long-time supporter of the festival, acting as venue for the last few years. “Last year’s event with Space and Cast was our best yet,” said Ian, “but we want to continually evolve the format to ensure we are giving the people of Warrington the best experience. With that in mind, this year we’re hosting the emerging talent and our headliners on the same day.”

Steve Oates, who secures the emerging talent for the festival, said he was thrilled that this year’s acts would be sharing the bill with the worldwide stars.

“We think this approach will give the up-and-coming performers greater exposure and also bring a unique atmosphere and experience to the audience,” said Steve. “It’s going to be a great experience for them and will make the day an even more special event.”

Fun Lovin’ Criminals hail from New York City and found global fame in the late 1990s. Their eclectic musical style fuses hip hop, rock, blues and jazz together with R&B, punk and funk.

Led by charismatic frontman Huey Morgan, the trio are best known for their hit “Scooby Snacks,” with many of their songs focusing on New York City and urban life in general. Their lyrics can be gritty or existentialist in nature, but they are just as often humorous or satirical.

“We’re sure the ‘Criminals’ will make for a fantastic headliner to this year’s festival,” said Steve. “It’s going to be a terrific day of free music, and we can’t wait for the bank holiday weekend now!”

Further details on GS Warrington Music Festival – including the line-up of performers – will be announced in the coming weeks.
