We have all seen the explosion of cycling in the last few years due in no small part to the Olympics and Tour de France success the Brits have been enjoying.

Keeping the country pedalling are a few different (but very similar) cycle scheme providers operating in most workplaces up and down the country.

The Cycle Scheme is where you choose a bike or components and your employer buys the kit.

Over the following 12 months you pay them back but as the money is taken out before your net salary, you save income tax along the way.

The company claims back the purchase with the VAT and NI saved resulting in savings upwards of 40%.

Hundreds of thousands of people have already bought a bike on the scheme, which was introduced as a tax exemption in 1999 by the government to ‘promote healthier journeys to work and reduce environmental pollution’.

Nearly all forms of cycles and components are available including parts, clothing and safety wear all of which can help you keep equipped when cycling to work.

Within the local Warrington area, the council have created an informative fold out map displaying most cycle lanes in the borough and is a real insight into the large range of paths and cycle ways across the town.

The Cycle Map Issue 6 is available now from the council.
