Exhibition showcases stunning mossland landscapes

AN innovative project is set to take centre stage at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery as a prize-winning artist prepares to depict some of Cheshire’s most unique liminal landscapes.
The gallery is to introduce Haecceity – a mesmerising work that seeks to capture the essence of stunning mosslands around Warrington.
This new work is a commissioned residency as part of the extended Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival, created by the winner of last year’s open exhibition, artist Tracy Hill.
Haecceity, is born out of a fascinating process that uses state-of-the-art mapping technology to explore the geological and ecological identity of a place.
Over the past few months Tracy has been exploring Cadishead, Little Woolden, Risley Moss, and Delamere mosslands, uncovering their history and ecological make-up to offer a re-imagined understanding of these unique spaces.
Tracy records information from these distinctive landscapes using a laser scanner, and applies the data from 360 degree scans to create her eye-catching images.
Contrary to popular belief, wetlands offer a geological and archaeological heritage dating back thousands of years, while at the same time offering solutions to many future ecological and environmental challenges.
Using a multi-sensory approach, Tracy aims to illustrate these locations in a truly unique way, by paying homage to the history of the place, capturing its present state and imagining its future, to arrive at a complete understanding and appreciation of these beautiful wetland spaces.
In addition to being able to view these areas, visitors will also have a rare opportunity to track the creation of the work, as
Tracy will create a unique site specific drawing, working directly on the walls of the gallery during a short residency period.
Visitors can also enjoy a multi-sensory experience, thanks to a series of interactive drawings that will trigger sound recordings collected from Risley Moss, adding to the overall experience.
Haecceity will be at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery from Saturday  March 10 to Saturday June 16.
