Motor vehicle students at Warrington & Vale Royal College are benefiting from hands-on experience in the industry, thanks to the college’s links with forklift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich.
Level 1 students Brad Moorhouse and Ben Lawrinson spent a week working at Jungheinrich’s truck centre in Risley, Warrington. There, they worked on a variety of machines, putting the skills they have picked up during their time at the college to the test.
All students at Warrington & Vale Royal College are given the opportunity to carry out work placements with employers across Cheshire. Jungheinrich is just one of more than 500 employers the college currently works with.
Former Hope Academy pupil Brad said: “The work placement with Jungheinrich was fantastic – I really enjoyed it. We got to work with a large variety of machines, including both petrol and electric engines.
“I have wanted to work with cars and engines since I was a kid and it’s what my dad does. The course at Warrington & Vale Royal College seemed like the best step for me to follow in his footsteps. I’m really enjoying the course and learning a lot of really useful things.”
Ben, a former Beamont Collegiate Academy pupil, added: “Being able to complete a work placement at Jungheinrich was great and a fantastic opportunity for us. It’s an opportunity we wouldn’t have had if it wasn’t for the college and its industry links. We were able to take the skills and knowledge we have gained on the course and apply them to what we were doing on our placement – it was great!”
Curriculum Manager Chris Johnson said: “We have long-standing relationships with a number of employers within the motor vehicle industry. To have our students go out and spend time working with big name companies like Jungheinrich is something we are very proud of as it further enhances what we are teaching them during their time with us at the college.”
