School flies the flag for war heroes

PUPILS at St James C of E school Warrington are flying the flag for war heroes thanks to local campaigner Julie Francis.

Julie, who has campaigned tirelessly for improvements to be carried out to the war memorial cenotaph on Bridge Foot, has donated a Union flag to the school, along with poppies which are left at the memorial each Remembrance Day.

Julie has arranged with Warrington Borough Council  for a flag to be flown at the cenotaph for the past four years – and each year after 12 months, she arranges for the flag to be replaced – with the one being removed then donated to a local good cause.

She met with St James’ Head Mr Flute and pupils from school council to talk about the flag and what it represents….

Julie said: “Last year after November 11 I took the wreaths to the school which now form part of a display.

“It’s to teach the youngsters the importance of why we are on the soil we live on and to remember our fallen heroes.

“I donate each flag to a worthy home each time I take one down,” added Julie
