“Not the standard we expect,” says Steve Price

Warrington coach Steve Price said their performance in defeat at Huddersfield was unacceptable.

The Wolves suffered a second successive loss as they went down 20-6 against the Giants, despite taking the lead with a try in the fourth minute.

Price said: “It’s not the standard we expect as a footy club. We were very confident leading in to the game and got off to a reasonable start, so to come up with a display like that is disappointing.

“I had confidence in the players we had out there.

“But we made 14 errors and conceded 14 penalties, three of them when we had the ball.

“Players have got to take a personal responsibility to be able to control the ball and be disciplined in the game.

“With 28 of those errors and penalties combined, you’re never going to give yourself a chance.

“It’s pretty simple.

“We’ve got to get back on the horse against Widnes. It’s a very big game coming off the back of two losses now, it’s a local derby and it’s going to be a really important game for us.”

Stefan Ratchford kicking out on the full from the kick-off was perhaps an early warning it would be one of those nights for the Wolves.

He made up for that error with a smart kick left for Tom Lineham to open the scoring with a well taken try on the left.

But their only other score of the match would come via a Bryson Goodwin penalty on the stroke of half time, which took them in to the break 14-6 down.

A Matty Russell error from a kick gifted a try to Jordan Turner to virtually end the game of the contest, though Warrington had barely ventured in to the Giants 20 metres after the break anyway.
