WARRINGTON Borough Council’s chief executive has been asked to join the national Libraries Taskforce.
Professor Steven Broomhead will be taking up a position on the board after an invitation from the chairman of the taskforce Kim Bromley-Derry, chief executive of Newham Council.
Prof Broomhead was chairman of Warrington’s Libraries Working Group which formed to review the results of consultations over the borough’s provision. The group has implemented a plan which has led to new investment and innovative plans to save Warrington’s libraries.
The national taskforce was formed after the Independent Library Review for England to provide leadership and help to reinvigorate the public library sector in England, as well as showcasing and promoting the excellent work already happening in libraries across the country.
Prof Broomhead said: “It will be good to learn, and contribute to, best practice elsewhere in order to bring back to Warrington to ensure we have a library service that we can all be proud of in the future.”
The taskforce is jointly sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Local Government Association.
