WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid, has been inspired by award winning business woman Ami Sekhon, who overcame illness as a child to go on and launch her own business.

Ami, who has lived in Warrington since she was three, was awarded Solo Business Winner of the year at this year’s Enterprise Vision Awards in Blackpool. Faisal met Ami to congratulate her on winning the accolade.

Due to an illness at a young age Ami was forced to leave school and educate herself, eventually earning a first-class degree in Law. However she chose not to pursue Law and instead to follow her real passion, a love for dogs, which had been inspired by her first dog ‘Tiger’ the Poodle.

Ami has been involved in dog training for many years and runs one of Warrington’s most successful dog training schools, Cheshire Dog School. Based in Warrington, Ami started the business seven years ago and now employs two members of staff.

As well as running the busines she enjoys successfully competing with her own dogs in agility and other dog sports. She is a grade 7 handler, the highest grade achievable in agility and she competes in championship classes with her dog Kiri.
She also goes into local schools to work with children who fear dogs.

In September 2016, Ami won the Enterprise Vision Award (EVA) in the ‘Training and Coaching’ category and this year she was awarded the prestigious ‘Solo Business Winner of the Year’.

Faisal said: “I was delighted to hear that Ami Sekhon and her Warrington based business, Cheshire Dog School, were recognised at the Enterprise Vision Awards. She should be very proud of this well-deserved honour.

“It was great to meet Ami and to hear how she overcame challenges in her life and built her successful local business. Ami refused to let her illness prevent her from pursuing her dreams and she has worked tirelessly to achieve her goals.

“This award rightly pays tribute to Ami’s efforts in building a successful local enterprise and I hope that her success will inspire others to follow their own business aspirations.”
