Work set to start on 158 new homes at Omega

WORK is set to start on building 158 new homes on Omega South early in the New Year following detailed planning approval with more planned on adjoining land.

Omega Warrington Limited (OWL) and Redrow Homes Ltd have been granted Reserved Matters (detailed) planning approval for Redrow to build a mix of 158 new homes on Omega South.

Meanwhile plans for a further 86 new Redrow homes on neighbouring land are still under consideration.

The Redrow scheme will become phase two of a residential development on Omega South that will, through multiple housebuilders, deliver up to 1,100 much-needed homes for local people over the next ten years. Construction for phase one of 200 homes is already underway by Miller Homes.

Colin Graham, Development Director at Omega Warrington Ltd said: “Our selection of Redrow follows significant interest earlier this year from a variety of major national housebuilders when the opportunity to build phase two was put out to market. We believe Redrow’s credentials make them the right housebuilder to deliver the quality of new homes we have committed to at Omega.”

Redrow’s Omega operation will be in two phases. The first, which now has planning consent, comprises 158 two, three and four-bedroom properties, including 48 starter homes. A second phase of 86 larger three, four and five-bedroom detached homes is also planned.

Steve Greenhalgh, managing director of Redrow Homes (Lancashire), said: “We’re delighted to be bringing a wide range of our sought-after homes to the Warrington area. With everything from affordable two-bedroom apartments and two/three-bedroom terraces, to large four and five-bedroom detached homes we will have something for just about everyone.

“With good public transport links, access to the M62 and close proximity to shops, services and schools, including the new Barrow Hall Primary, this is an excellent location for new homes and we are pleased to be part of the Omega story.”

Redrow’s first phase of 158 new homes will occupy a site of approximately 14.5 acres off Sophia Drive. Work will commence imminently to prepare the site for development.

The development will comprise 30 two-bedroom apartments, 18 two and three-bedroom terraced properties, 28 2 three and four bed bedroom semi-detached houses, and 82 three and four-bedroom detached family homes. Designs are from Redrow’s Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection, which combines traditional looking exteriors with bright, modern interiors and high quality fixtures and fittings.

Development of this and the neighbouring site of 86 planned three, four and five-bedroom detached homes, off Omega Boulevard, are expected to take around three years to complete. During that time Redrow expects to employ hundreds of north-west based contractors on site and create a number of new apprenticeships.

The first homes are expected to go on sale in spring 2018.

Warrington Borough Council granted Outline Planning Permission in June 2016 for 1,100 new homes on Omega South to provide a range of properties for all family sizes and pockets, including affordable housing.

Omega is being delivered by Omega Warrington Ltd (OWL) in partnership with landowner the Homes and Communities Agency and supported by Warrington Borough Council and the Cheshire and Warrington LEP.

  1. Have a look at the Whittle Hall Community facebook page for photos of the environmental destruction this development by Redrow and Omega Warrington Ltd (of which WBC is a ‘partner’) has generated and distress its caused to the local community – hundreds of mature trees, woodland and habitat have been cleared since Monday including all the trees that Omega Warrington Limited said would be retained. The Councils ecologists didn’t bother to respond to consultation and nor did the councils tree and woodland officer so it goes ahead on the say so of one planning officer. Omega Warrington’s planning consultant said the woodland and habitat had to go to release ‘maximum value’ from the plot yet it was entirely possible to retain some of the trees, especially hedgerows and mature oaks that survived the world war but not WBC particularly when the outline application said these areas would be protected and enhanced. Our esteemed MP has yet to respond. Maybe Warrington Worldwide could do a more balanced piece and take some photos of the devastation rather than just print PR guff by house builders?
