A message of hope sent to a stranger

MP Helen Jones dropped in at Newchurch Parish Hall, Culcheth to sign up to Warrington Amnesty Group’s “Write for Right” campaign.
It was the fourth year the event had taken place and the Warrington North MP makes a point of supporting it.
Each year, globally, thousands of people send cards and write letters on behalf of strangers they are never likely to meet but whose story of injustice, abuse or wrongful imprisonment touches their heart and motivates them to take action.
One sujch person is Egytian women’s rights lawyer Azza Soliman who has dedicated her life to defending victims of torture, arbitrary detention, domestic abuse and rape and now faces imprisonment on the grounds that she is a threat to national security.
Ms Jones said: “ I am pleased to support this event once again. Now in its fourth year, it has become established in the local community.  The messages of support sent to people around the world are so much appreciated by those who receive them – human rights abuses must be highlighted and as much pressure as possible put on governments to end such activities. “
