Big clear-up in community woodland

0

A BIG clear-up was carried out at Lymm’s Spud Wood by volunteers – supported by management staff from the Bridgewater Canal Company and their contractors.
Members of the Friends of Spud Wood (FoSW)and supporters spent more than 35 man-hours clearing and chipping brash in the wood, which is community woodland adjoining the Bridgewater Canal.
The aim of the Friends’ group is to help the Woodland Trust to minimise the management running costs of the woodland and the support offered by the Bridgewater Canal Company made a very positive contribution to this.
The brash is a bi-product of the tree thinning exercise that FoSW have been running and is now in its fifth year.
The group also organise regular events for the local community including coppicing days, events for children of all ages and seasonal nature walks.
FoSW and the Woodland Trust would like to thank the many individuals and local organisations who support the concept of Spud Wood as a local community woodland.
