Thief tricked his way into pensioners’ home

POLICE at Warrington are searching for a man who stole a purse from an elderly couple after posing as someone asking for directions.
He tricked his way into their home by pretending to help them carry their shopping.
The incident occurred at about 2.30pm on Saturday, November 4 in Broad Lane, Grappenhall.
The couple, both in their 70s, were getting out of their car on their drive when they were approached by a man who appeared to speak little English. He was holding a map and seemed to be asking for directions.
The couple tried to help him and he then helped them carry some of their shopping into their garage. He then appeared to be leaving – but followed them into their kitchen – again holding out the map.
After a few minute he left – and almost immediately the woman noticed her purse was missing.
The man is described as being of Asian origin, about 50 and 5ft 4 inches
The suspect is described as being of Asian origin, about 50-years-old and 5ft 4ins tall. He had short dark hair which was greying and was wearing a dark coat to just below the waist and dark grey jogging shorts.
DC Neil Radley said: “Fortunately the purse only contained a small amount of money and the bank cards were cancelled almost straight away.
“As well as appealing for anyone with information I’d like to take this opportunity to remind people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”
