Radio Warrington needs your vote!

COMMUNITY radio station Radio Warrington is appealing to the public to vote for them in a bid to win funding for new equipment.

They have applied to the AVIVA Community Fund for funding to help cover the cost of upgrading their broadcasting equipment in their new studios at Warrington Market and they need votes to get to the next stage.

Volunteer presenter Llew Garner, who has put together the bid said: “We would like as many people as possible to vote for us. Any one voting will have 10 votes and these can be use solely to vote for Radio Warrington.”

People can help by voting at:

Radio Warrington was launched in 2007 with the intention of having a bespoke community radio station in Warrington by providing local news, sport, traffic news, outside broadcasts and music catering for everyone in Warrington. Over the years the Radio Warrington has expanded to 30 volunteer members giving up their spare time producing a 24 hour service.

Like all community radio services Radio Warrington works on a not – for – profit basis focusing on delivering a service to the local community and in view of this they need to arrange various types of funding to cover overheads.

All programme presenters offer their services for free but there will be large overheads to keep the station going. To raise funds to keep the station going they rely on businesses or individuals who feel they are able to support them in any anyway whether it be donations or helping them to purchase specific equipment. They are also able to offer a limited amount of advertising at very reasonable costs.

Llew added: “Radio Warrington has built up a good relationship with local community groups and projects by promoting them on air, outside broadcasts at various organisation fun days and covering local events. Local organizations are invited to the studio to share what they are doing. Overall Radio Warrington is becoming a major player in supporting and helping the local community. We welcome all the help we can get. Please vote for us!”

After broadcasting online for many years, the station was successful in obtaining a licence to broadcast on AM. Unfortunately due to some technical issues they have not been able to broadcast on AM for the past couple of months – but this is about to change and they will be back on the airwaves shortly.

Meanwhile they continue to broadcast online around the clock at www.radiowarrington.co.uk

warrington-worldwide Editor Gary Skentelbery has his own #ClassicRock show every Saturday 10pm-midnight.
