THE M56 has been closed in both directions following an accident near Lymm.
The air ambulance has been called following the accident which according to eye witness reports involved a motor cycle on the westbound carriageway between J8 near Lymm and Junction 9 at Stretton.
There are also lane closures in force on the eastbound carriageway between junction 9 at Lymm and Junction 7 near Altrincham.
Traffic delays are anticipated to last until 13.30.
