WARRINGTON Wolves have sold loose forward Joe Westerman to Toronto Wolfpack for a fee of £130,000 in a deal said to suit all parties concerned.

Westerman, 27, was under contract at the Wire for one more season – until November 2018 – but the club decided to accept a bid of £130,000 from Toronto.

He signed for Warrington from Hull FC in 2016 and holds club heritage number 1125. Since his debut of that year he has made 53 appearances, crossing for 12 tries.

Chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick said: “We believe this transfer is a great move for all parties concerned. It frees up further salary cap space allowing the new coach to recruit players who will enhance the culture of the playing group and hopefully deliver on-field success. We wish Joe all the best at his new club.”

Westerman will be following in  the footsteps of Ashton Sims, James Laithwaite and Gary Wheeler.
