Terrorism suspect appears in court accused of supplying Sim cards to jihadists

A man arrested in Warrington under the Terrorism Act has appeared in court again accused of supplying mobile phone sim cards to jihadists fighters in Iraq and Syria.

Rabar Mala, of Gough Avenue, Longford, Warrington, is alleged to have activated hundreds of cards between January 2016 and August 21, 2017, before they were passed on to fighters in Iraq and Syria.

The 32-year-old appeared at the Old Bailey in London via a videolink and was remanded in custody until January for a preliminary hearing in Manchester.

Mala, a car valeter, is charged with possessing property for the purposes of terrorism under Section 16 of the Terrorism Act.

It is alleged he had activated hundreds of Sim cards over the last two years which were then passed on to fighters in Iraq and Syria.

The defendant was arrested after armed police stormed two properties in the Warrington area as part of a counter-terrorism operation on August 20.
