Police hunt for burglar who preyed on 79-year-old woman

DETECTIVES in Warrington are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 79-year-old woman fell victim to a distraction burglary in her home at Latchford.

The burglary took place at 2pm last Friday, (September 15) when a 79-year-old woman was approached by a man at her home on Grange Avenue in Latchford.

The man produced a large map and made requests for directions. He then followed her into her home where he stole a number of personal items.

The offender is described as being dark skinned, aged late 40s – early 50s, 5ft 6 in height and of a medium build. He had a small growth of dark hair on his chin and distinctive gold teeth on the right hand side of his mouth. His hair was black, short on the back and sides and combed back on the top, it was described as greasy.

Detective Constable Alex Reeves, of Warrington CID, said: “This man targeted an elderly lady in order to steal from her. It’s urgent we find out who he is to stop him from taking advantage of anyone else. If anyone believes they have seen a man matching this description, I would urge them to contact me as soon as possible.”
