LIVEWIRE has, again, been highly praised by The Reading Agency for the number of people they encouraged to take part in a reading challenge to improve their literacy skills.
The organisation – which runs libraries in Warrington – came third in the rankings of 75 library authorities, when comparing the number of people who completed the Reading Ahead challenge.
It comes after LiveWire were given a gold award by The Reading Agency for supporting 159 adults to complete the challenge – nearly twice as many more than the previous year.
The national challenge, which used to be called the Six Book Challenge, encouraged participants to read six pieces of writing and record their reading in a diary.
Nationally, 38,000 adults completed the challenge across libraries, colleges, prisons and workplaces.
Cheryl Siddall, LiveWire’s strategic lead for libraries, said: “This recognition on a national level is testament to the commitment of the staff working in our libraries, who have encouraged and supported more people than ever to complete the challenge.”
LiveWire worked with a range of partners across the town to target hard-to-reach groups and individuals with poor literacy skills.
Students from Warrington Collegiate and Priestly College, patients from Warrington Hospital, residents at Gainsborough House Care Home and attendees at Gorse Covert Day Centre were among the participants who completed the challenge.
Clients from LiveWire’s Read to Relax groups also took part, along with inmates at Risley and Thorn Cross Prisons – where LiveWire also runs library services.
