MP welcomes clarity over Western Link route

WARRINGTON South MP Faisal Rashid has welcomed the announcement of the proposed route for the Warrington Western Link, which he says provides some much needed clarity for local people after a period of anxiety and uncertainty for many of his constituents.

Commenting on thew coucnil’s preferred revised red Route option Faisal said: “I was pleased to see that the Council has clearly taken the feedback of residents on board including many of the concerns that residents had raised with me and which I had set out in my detailed response on their behalf.

“I was also pleased to see that the total number of homes being subject to a Compulsory Purchase Order has been reduced, and now stands at just four. My understanding is that the arrangements for some of these have already been agreed.

“Whilst a major concern of many residents was the disruption to their homes and neighbourhoods, the proposed route utilising a portion of Sankey Valley park will minimise the extent of this and will come as a relief to many local people. At the same time, I appreciate that the effect on the park is unwelcome but was glad to know that the Friends of Sankey Valley Park group has been kept fully informed.

“There will be further consultation on the preferred route now that it has been identified, and again I will be liaising with residents and want to understand their points of view. The route has been proposed because it is seen as a vital link between south and west Warrington, but it is important that it is achieved in a way that is acceptable to the widest number of local people.”

Faisal will be attending a meeting tonight (Friday) at Eagle Sports Club, Thornton Road, Great Sankey, that has been called by the United Against The Western Link group, to listen to his constituents and take forward their views.
