English Half Marathon set to be biggest yet!

THE English Half Marathon returns to Warrington for its 9th year this weekend and with over 7,000 runners signed up is set to be the biggest yet!

Three of the four distances have already sold out, with limited availability for the WireFM event for anyone wishing to take part.

Organisers have worked tirelessly to give runners an event to remember, with some fantastic additions to the race day weekend, including live streaming online and via a jumbo screen at the event powered by David Lloyd Warrington.

This allows spectators and runners to watch themselves cross the finish line in front of the town’s iconic Golden Gates. In addition, runners will enjoy a specially brewed beer from the ‘Wincle Beer Company’ to enjoy post-race. The brewery will also be providing a bar offering refreshments for people coming down to support this weekend.

Over 4,000 people from outside of the area will be coming to Warrington  to take part in any of the four events on offer. The EHM weekend kicks off this Friday in Victoria Park for the brand-new 5k Night Run. For the first time, nearly 800 runners will be taking part on Friday to earn themselves a great bit of race day bling.

The main event then takes place on Sunday, September 17, with a stunning back drop of the town’s Golden Gates, the inspiration behind this year’s finishers medal. Once again runners will enjoy a red-carpet finish the perfect place for spectators to view family and friends finish their run. The ever popular WireFM Family Mile also is back this Sunday, the perfect run for all the family and a great cool down for those partaking in the morning’s race.

Local resident Rob Griffiths, Race Director said “The team have been working hard over the past 12 months to bring runners a world class race experience. We have some great sponsors on board this year which really elevate the event. With this year set to be our biggest to date it’s so exciting to bring so many runners from outside the area to show what our great town has to offer. We can’t wait for Sunday and hope thousands of spectators come out to support the runners by making as much noise as you can!”

The English Half Marathon route is designed to show you everything that Warrington has to offer. From a bustling town centre, to scenic countryside the course has something to offer every runner. A forgiving second half rewards runners who put in the effort at the front end, meaning the English Half Marathon and 10k courses are both excellent runs for PB chasers. Races are a terrific way to get to know a location in-depth and discover its best-kept secrets.
