Albion put to the sword by title-chasers

LATCHFORD Albion went down 48-12 at Orrell St James when they were put to the sword in the second half by the title-chasing home side.
The early exchanges were close and both sides traded tries in the opening minutes.
Orrell hit the front with a good try before Albion levelled the score when Chris Griffiths dummied his way over, also adding the extras.
The hosts then enjoyed a good spell, showing why they are currently at the top of the league and using the territory to register two further converted tries.
With the half coming to a close Griffiths collected a loose ball and raced 40 yards to score, his second conversion leaving a half time score of 18-12.
But Orrell hit Latchford with two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to take away any hope the visitors may have had of getting a result. Albion were now tiring and Orrell were able to capitalise on any opportunity presented to them and ran out worthy winners.
Latchford can take credit as they had spells where they were competitive but ultimately credit must go to a well organised Orrell side who will certainly be in the hunt for honours come the end of the season.
This Wednesday, Latchford will host, and also compete in, the Warrington cup Final.
Coach Lee Smith said ahead of the game: “Wednesday’s fixture is an important one for us as a group.
“We started the year In a tough spot and we have had to fight every week in this league to keep ourselves in the picture. It has been a year of putting it all together and finding our feet as a squad. As the season is winding down this test is a perfect opportunity for us to lay a marker down for pre-season and next season as a whole.
“I know what these lads can achieve and if we go out there and do what we are capable of then we will be celebrating another big win in the club’s history.”
Kick off is at 7.30pm and a licensed bar with hot and cold refreshments will be available from 5.30pm
