Neighbours object to rugby club expansion

BOLD plans for the re-development of Lymm Rugby Club are to come before Warrington planning chiefs on Wednesday – along with objections from nearby residents.

The scheme includes construction of a new purpose-built clubhouse, multi-sports facility, and caretakers flat, along with four tennis courts, a 3G rugby pitch and conversion of the existing into four apartments and 10 new dwellings.

Lymm Parish Council has lodged objections to the scheme on the grounds it is in the Green Belt – although it appreciates that the club needs improved facilities.

Cllr Ian Marks, however, supports the application although he too has concerns about the Green Belt and would wish to ensure that any approval is not seen as a precedent for further applications.

He is also opposed to the homes being in a gated development.

Fifteen letters of objection have been received from residents of Manor Road and Crouchley Lane – in particular to parking issues and road safety issues arising from parking on Crouchley Lane, which, they say, have been the cause of accidents.

There are also fears of late night noise arising from alcohol-related and anti-social activity.

But planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.

  1. Waste of time objecting to WBC or Lymm Parish Council – local people against this scheme would be better contacting Sport England with their concerns.
