WARRINGTON-based Cheshire Chord Company – the current UK silver medal ladies barbershop chorus – is heading for Russia later this month.

On August 17, the multi-award winning choir, will travel to St Petersburg to take part in a week of singing and sightseeing.

As a member of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers, they have competed very successfully in UK and European competitions for many yuears and have been UK Ladies champions seven times – most recently in 2014.

In October last year they were named silver medallists, gaining their highest ever score.

Over the years, they have taken gold, silver or bronze in every national competition they have entered.

Under the direction of Joanne Braham, the choir will be joining their coach, Jack Pinto, and his chorus, Brothers in Harmony, from New Jersey, USA, at the Barbershop Music Festival in St Petersburg.

They will be performing in a number of prestigious venues, including St Petersburg State Capella, St Petri-Kirche Church and the Philharmonic Hall.

There will also be some time for sightseeing and they hope to visit many local landmarks including Peter and Paul Fortress, Peterhof Palace and Gardens and the Grand Palace.

Cheshire Chord Company spokeswoman Rachel Sheldon said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the chorus and a rare chance to experience a very different culture to our own. This trip has been in the planning for around two years and the ladies are very excited to finally get there!”
