HARRISON Taylor, a member of Stockton Heath Tennis Club, is to play in a four-day tournament at Wimbledon later in August.
The Bridgewater High School pupil entered the competition, through his school, and qualified for the regional finals after winning all his games.
During the two-day regional finals, organised by the Lawn Tennis Association, he again won all his games on the first day, putting him into the semi-final on the second day.
At this point, the competition became an instant knock-out tournament so he had to win all his matches.
He won every one of his 11 matches to qualify for the final, which, after a closely fought match he won 10-8 in a tie-break
Harrison is now in the national final at Wimbledon with a fantastic opportunity to play four days of tennis on the hallowed grass courts.
The final is played on the fifth day.
Former British number one Tim Henman will be present and Harrison will be able to attend a players’ party.
Stockton Heath Tennis Club spokesperson said recognition should be given to Ant McCarthy, head coach at the club, for his technique and fitness coaching, and to John Carr, who was always there to give Harrison the mental ability to get through the games.
Thanks were also due to the selection committee at the club for considering Harrison for men’s league matches, which had given him invaluable experience at a good level of tennis.
Thanks were also due to Bridgewater High School for giving one of their public a fantastic opportunity.
