Burtonwood surrender 10-point lead

BURTONWOOD Bridge surrendered a 16-6 lead to eventually go down 16-18 to Rochdale Cobras in a North West Men’s League fixture.
They started the game in a very positive fashion and were leading 6-0 after as many minutes through a try from Will Weir, converted by Ross Young.
Weir scored a second try after the Cobras were pressurised by Tommy Unsworth to make the lead 10-0.
Shortly before half time, Cobras hit back with a converted try to make the score 10-6 at the interval.
The second half started well for Burtonwood with skipper Craig Stanton putting the ball down at the side of the posts and Young slotting over his second conversions to make the score 16-6.
But disappointment and frustration began to set in following a number of refereeing decisions and worse luck was to follow when half-back Matty Wilson had to be helped off with an injury.
Shortly after, Young was also side-lined with an injury and the re-shuffling needed clearly disrupted Burtonwood’s flow.
Rochdale, with a never-say-attitude, took advantage of this to score two late tries and snatch victory from the yaws of defeat.
Best for Burtonwood were club chairman Dan Crampton, centre Will Weir, and Ryan and Callum Farnan.
