Homes plan given the go-ahead

PLANS to demolish a house at Culcheth and replace it with three new properties have been given the go-ahead – despite objections.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council and 16 local residents had opposed the scheme in Hob Hey Lane.
The scheme involves an existing house, outbuildings and garden which has two accesses onto  Hob Hey Lane.
The borough council’s development management committee has agreed that the house can be demolished and three two-and-half storey houses with integral garages built on the site.
The committee was told one of the properties would continue to have two access points onto Hob Hey Lane and the other two would share a private drive.
Important trees and hedgerows on the site will be retained, but the front hedge will be replaced with a new one.
Earlier outline proposals for three houses on the site were approved in 2013.
Objectors claimed the scheme would result in over-development of the site, and would be out of keeping with the area. They believe the properties would, in fact, be three storeys, and would be “an eyesore.”
They claimed the site had been subject to flooding in the past, there would be a loss of privacy for neighbours and that approval of the scheme could “open the floodgates” for further similar applications.
Officers had recommended the scheme be approved.
