ST OSWALD’S care home has been named as the ‘best residential care provider’ in the Health Investor awards and ‘Best for clinical facilities’ in the National Care Home Awards for 2017.

The care home, on Golborne Road, Winwick was praised by judges for running several programmes for its residents, including ‘Magic Moments’, which provides a varied schedule of recreation, activities and entertainment. This runs alongside a ‘Wishing Well’ scheme which fulfils wishes for individual residents to experience something they have also wanted to do or be taken somewhere they have always wanted to visit.

The judges described these programmes, which feature in all Brighterkind homes, as “inspirational” and creating a positive environment where residents and staff are encouraged to “love everyday” as part of the organisational values.

St Oswald’s is also among over 50 Brighterkind homes providing specialist nursing care for its residents, with judges recognising the dedication in supporting staff with additional training to develop their skills in caring for older people.

Cllr Pat Wright, executive board member for statutory health and social care, said: “These awards represent the excellent and dedicated work delivered every day in care homes to ensure residents are happy and well cared for.

“I would like to thank all the staff who work so hard to make St Oswald’s such a valuable asset to the community and who strive to ensure residents have the best quality of life possible.”
