Council extends contract with Allen Street Day Centre

WARRINGTON Council has extended its contract with Allen Street Day Centre to March 2018, allowing further time for added consultation on the future of mental health services delivered from the Bewsey base.

A national charity, Together for Wellbeing, is currently commissioned by the council to deliver a range of services under the ‘Your Way’ programme.

A service user from Together for Wellbeing will join an independent review board to be led by Healthwatch Warrington chair Helen Speed.

The review board will also include mental health service commissioners and an advocacy service representative who will continue to gain feedback from service users.

Cllr Pat Wright, executive board member for statutory health and social care, said: “Our priority is to support people with mental health problems towards recovery and independent living. Although no funding is being withdrawn in this case, the effectiveness and value for money of all services is under review and we do need to be sure that whoever we commission to provide services delivers the right services to the right people.”

The review will begin imminently and will include a three-month consultation with existing service users and with those who do not currently engage with the service. All options will be considered, from continuing to commission the same service from the same provider to decommissioning or finding an alternative provider.

The contract has been extended until March next year.

  1. That’s seems a reasonable way forward a number of members of the Warrington Bipolar Support Group have and do make use of the facility so hopefully they will be given the opportunity to have their say just as they have done in the development of the new local NHS Bipolar Pathway.
