Doris celebrates 100 years – “Simply the Best”

DORIS Maines celebrated her 100th birthday at Culcheth – and helped family and friends to plant a rose tree to mark the occasion.

The tree was, appropriately, named “Simply the Best”

Doris was born at Leigh in July 1917 but has lived in the Culcheth area since her marriage in 1941.

Her family spans five generations – one daughter, two grandchildren, four great grandchilden and one great great granddaughter.

She celebrated her birthday with family and friends at the Culcheth Sports and Social Club and again with friends and neighbours at
Chatburn Court when the rose tree was planted.

The highlight of her birthday was receiving a card from the Queen.
