GLORIOUS sunshine helped Penketh Carnival go with a bang as hundreds of people joined a carnival parade.

A beautiful summers day welcomed this year’s participants and visitors to an action packed Penketh Carnival.

In a welcome change from last year’s puddles and umbrellas, sun cream and cold drinks were the order of the day. This year’s Disney themed parade got under way at 11.30 am starting at the High School and finishing at the Greystone Recreation Ground.

Amongst those taking part were local Penketh South and Great Sankey primary schools, Haydock Valley Brass band, army and police cadets, cubs and scouts, Crosfield Junior ARLFC, Viscaria dance troop, Carters Fund with their Bernese mountain dogs and carts and an amazing 101 Dalmatians display by the Warrington Brownies.

This year warrington worldwide produced exclusive live video coverage of the whole procession which you can click on and view below, along with a gallery of free images. Go and see if you can spot yourself.

The parade ended at the Greystone Recreation Ground where an abundance of entertaining and fun attractions awaited the large crowds of locals who had walked and lined the streets.

As well as a large fairground there was also a large car boot market, donkey rides, police and army demonstrations, a dog show, dance performances by the Back Step Boogie Club and Viscaria dance, a Wild Wings bird rescue display and many more stalls providing fund and refreshment.

David Keene, local councillor and police commissioner explained: “ This is a great event for the whole community and the result of a lot of hard work from all involved in the planning and running of the day by the Penketh carnival events team and helpers. It is great to see everyone come together for a great day of fun and what great weather we have this year too”.
