Volunteers wanted for village walking day

THE annual Walking Day at Stockton Heath will take place on Saturday, July 8 – and organisers are looking for volunteers to help marshal the event.
Last year, they were overwhelmed by the response from the local community after the police withdrew from marshalling the day and the hope is that just as many people will come forward this year.
Dozens of marshals will be needed on the day to make sure the traditional walk of witness can take place safely. Anyone prepared to  help should email [email protected]
The walk begins in Alexandra Park with a service at 2pm, when members of local churches, schools and scout/brownie groups join together in praise. The theme for this year’s event is “Miracles of Jesus”, with the service in the park being led by Stockton Heath Methodist Church.
Following the service, the procession will set off from the park, accompanied by marching bands. The route passes through the centre of Stockton Heath, along Ellesmere Road and back along Walton Road.
Motorists are advised to expect delays on Saturday afternoon, with the following roads being closed from approximately 1.45pm – 4.00pm:  Alexandra Road, Carlton Street, Chapel Lane, East Avenue (part), Ellesmere Road (part), Grappenhall Road (part), Heath Street, London Road (part), Parkgate Road, Walton Road (part), Walton Heath Road (part) and Whitefield Road (part).
