Mother attacked as she walked with her child

POLICE investigating an attempted robbery in Warrington are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At about 4.30pm on Tuesday,  June 27, a 46-year-old woman was walking along Manchester Road with her child when a man on a mountain bike approached her and attempted to snatch her handbag.

The man then assaulted the woman, dragging her to the floor before making off empty handed.

The offender was of a stocky build, 6ft 1 inch tall and aged between 28 and 30. He was clean shaven with a fair complexion and sunburnt cheeks as well as having a large “pointy” nose. He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms and had a black waterproof jacket.

Detective Sergeant Dave Aspinall, of Warrington CID, said: “Although these incidents are very rare, this was a vicious attack on a woman who was with her young child. I would urge anyone who may have seen anyone matching the man’s description or who has any information to contact officers.”
