Travellers leave scene of devastation at Birchwood

VIDEO: TRAVELLERS who left a scene of devastation at Birchwood have been moved on by Warrington Police.

An estimated 10 vehicles arrived on the Warrington Borough Council Fox Wood school yesterday evening and police were called to the area following reports of criminal activity.

Firefighters were also called out to deal with two fires after trees were set on fire.

Welfare officers attended at the scene earlier today but police used special powers to move the travellers on – but not before a scene of devastation had been created, including an over turned caravan and litter.

There were also eye witness reports of tiles being ripped off the roof of the former school building.

Local Cllr Russ Bowden said he had been advised that the travellers had been served this morning with a Section 61 CJPOA notice by the police, requiring them to vacate the land by 2pm.

“This is a very welcome positive (and not that usual) step by the police to bring the matter to a prompt conclusion. They had an increased visible presence overnight and have been talking to local residents this morning – all of which deserves credit.”

The issue is being discussed at a meeting of Birchwood Town Council tonight which police will also be attending.

The former Fox Wood school is due to face demolition.

  1. Yet another example of pandering to these mobile criminals….. Welfare officers and a pat on the back and away you go chaps…. go and reek havoc somewhere else….

Typical WBC response though from Cllr Bowden. “This is a very welcome positive (and not that usual) step by the police to bring the matter to a prompt conclusion”… what planet do these people live on? These “travellers” have littered, caused massive criminal damage, trespass and no doubt broke into the site in the first place. As Eagle has said, why weren’t they arrested and charged?

    Absolutely beggars belief

  2. They should be arrested and charged with all on that list why do they get away with it … I wouldnt so why should they ? 😠😠😠😠

  3. Just ban them from the town completely they were on bruche park a couple of years ago until the kids robbed the little Tescos and then they were kicked off. They left the park in a disgusting state.

    • I was walking the dog on Bruche park when they arrived that day, about 10 caravans came storming on with total disregard for the safety of anyone on there, speeding round past the kids play area, its a wonder no one got seriously hurt. We picked the dog up and legged it before he got stolen for bloodsport
