Lymm May Queen cancelled!

THE Lymm May Queen event scheduled for today (Saturday) has been cancelled due to the heavy rain.

Event Chairman Steve Harper made the tough decision after deciding the May Queen field was too dangerous to use due to the soggy conditions.

“When we went on the field this morning to start setting up it was just too boggy. It would have been too dangerous and caused too much damage to the field if we had proceeded,” he said.

An emergency meeting will take place in the next few days in a bid to try and rearrange the event.

Last year’s event was also a wash out, although the parade did take place in a downpour, proceedings on the field had to be cancelled.

  1. I remember an event in my Mayoral year when young and dynamic Gary was taking photos of the Mayoral car during a down pour. Fortunately by the time the convoy got to the field the sun came out. British weather or climate change – looks like event planning needs a fall back/contingency plan as this sort of thing is occurring more often.

  2. and the Rushbearing had to go via the footpath last year – when I took part WBC didn’t deliver the road closures so we went ahead anyway without them – they arrived just as we got to the church and then had the cheek to bill the committee for 500 notes – I wrote to the chief exec saying that 250/lollipop stop and go signs for an hour was an insult. I think Cllr Shiela Woodyatt demanded and got the money back.
