FOUR young riders from Warrington cycling club North Cheshire Clarion raced for their club in Round Three of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit.
The selective event, which accepts only the best youth cyclists in the UK, gave these young cyclists, aged 11 to 14, a taste of professional level cycling, racing against the best riders from throughout the country.
The three day three stage event kicked off with a prologue time trial along Morecambe promenade. The second stage was held on a tough and technical closed road circuit in Lancaster, which the riders had to tackle repeatedly as they raced laps of the circuit. The stage was either up or down, there was no flat to be seen.
The final stage was held in torrential rain, and treacherous conditions, on the purpose-built Salt Ayre cycling circuit, also in Lancaster.
The riders Seb Grindley, 11, who attends Appleton Thorn Primary School and lives in Stockton Heath, Hannah McClorey, 11,  who attends Sandymoor School and lives in Sandymoor, and Euan Hacker (11) and Lachlan Hacker (14) who attend Lymm High School and live in Lymm, displayed true grit and determination.
Seb raced at an exceptionally high level, positioning well in all stages, particularly excelling on the tough second stage. His performance secured him 4th overall in the final under 12 boy’s category general classification. Both Seb and Euan raced strongly in Stage Three, leading some attacks off the front of the group, and both claiming points in the sprint laps.
Hannah also demonstrated her climbing ability on Stage Two and finishing the stage in ninth position, moving her to 10th overall, a position she retained on the final day.
Under 14 rider Lachlan Hacker raced his heart out throughout the tour, positioning 19th out of 66 riders on Stage Two. He finished the tour in 19th place overall, which earned him fifth best placed North West under 14 boy rider.
