Plans are underway for this year’s Croft Carnival, which will take place on Saturday July 1 on the village playing field.

This year’s theme for the scarecrow and street decoration competition is “Village Life”, as usual judging will take place on the morning of the Carnival and the winners announced on the day, with the Alan Sharpe Trophy awarded to the winning scarecrow.

The committee has been busy booking the various attractions for 2017. New acts for this year will be MAD Mountain Bike Display Team and Elaine Hill Duck and Dog Display. There will also have some of last year’s favourites again, with Thelwall Morris Men and Eclipse Jazz Band taking part in the parade and Punch and Judy and singer Neil Kristopher back to entertain both young and old. The day will be finished off with the now famous egg throwing competition.

Bookings are being taken from local charities, organisations or small businesses who would like a stall on the field and from any organisation that would like to have a float in the parade. The relevant contact details are listed below.

Ernest is very busy man. He is Chairman of the Winwick Over sixties club, the local Homewatch co-ordinator and has been a Sidesman at Winwick Parish Church for over 30 years. He is a keen Crown green bowler and loves to Morris Dance when the situation arises (he persuaded a group to take part whilst on a cruise on the Yangtze river!)

He is very community spirited and enjoys helping people. A keen swimmer and in celebration of his recent 90th Birthday, Ernest completed a 900 metre sponsored swim, raising in excess of £2,000 for Winwick Church.

In his younger days, Ernest owned and ran the Winwick off licence in the early 80’s. He is also a former treasurer of the Winwick Walking Day, a former parish councillor and school governor.

Croft Carnival is a great village occasion loved by both Croft residents and the many visitors from outside the village who come along every year. Croft Carnival Committee would like to thank all sponsors, helpers and Croft Parish Council for their continued support.
