Spitfire flypast confirmed for Lymm Historic Transport Day

A Spitfire fly past has been confirmed for the 5th annual Lymm Historic Transport Day which has a record line-up.

Organisers are putting the finishing touches to this year’s event which has quickly become such a firm favourite on the local calendar as well as drawing in thousands from further afield.

The show on Sunday June 25, now has confirmation of the RAF Spitfire flypast which will be at the early time of 11.25am This will follow on from the drive-in parade which passes through the village centre from 10.30 till 11am .

Some exciting late additions to the line-up include Fred Dibnah’s famous steam engine “Betsy” (pictured below) which is being brought to the show by Fred’s son Roger. The newly built Whitfield Light Railway will also be making only its second public appearance at this year’s show along a narrow gauge track on the May Queen field.

Other highlights during the day will be the drive in parade at 10.30, the dinosaur walkabout on the field at 12.30pm and 2.30pm and the appearance of the baby Triceratops at 1.30pm. The whole day wraps up with the Historic Sail past at 16.30pm.

In between times there is simply masses to see and do, classic vehicles, traction engines, historic boats, Lego transport expo, model railways, remote control car racing, ,a full-size replica Spitfire, aircraft cockpits and large model planes.

The show also features an exciting a new venue in the shape of Lymm Heritage Centre. Their team have been pulling out all the stops to be open in time for the Festival and are putting on an exhibition entitled “ A Quiet Revolution” a fascinating local history of cycling featuring an amazing collection of historic bicycles kindly loaned by Walton Hall Cycle Museum.

With free parking and a vintage bus ride thrown into the ticket price of just £5 for an adult. £3 for a child or £12 for a family of four the whole day certainly seems to live up to its motto of being “One Amazing Day Out.”

Event co-ordinator Alan Williams said: “And of course it can all only happen because of the work of a dedicated group of organising volunteers backed up on the day by 100+ stewards and marshals.
