Sunflowers celebrate the lives of others

SCHOOL children from Warrington and new mayor Cllr Les Morgan have teamed up with St Rocco’s Hospice to create a dazzling showcase of metal sunflowers celebrating the lives of others.
St Rocco’s planted their everlasting sunflowers on the lawn in front of the Town Hall, helped by pupils from local schools.
Mayor Cllr Les Morgan and Mayoress Gwyn were on hand to offer support.
Members of public are now being asked to sponsor the stunning metal structures, with all proceeds raised helping the hospices’ invaluable work to care for local people with life-limiting illnesses.
St Rocco’s is asking people to sponsor a flower to celebrate anyone special in their lives.
The sea of yellow sunflowers has created a “golden carpet” in front of the Town Hall, which will be on display for everyone to enjoy until June 11.
A spokesperson for St Rocco’s volunteers said: “By dedicating your St Rocco’s sunflower you will be helping to ensure that others who find themselves in a similar situation to our family will be able to turn to St Rocco’s for help when they need it most.”
Professor Steven Broomhead, Warrington Borough Council’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be hosting such a great display outside our town hall, not least as it will raise money for a wonderful cause.
“I look forward to seeing the spectacular ‘sea of sunflowers’, providing a unique and moving display at our civic heart. The flowers will have a special meaning to many people and will tell the stories of love, family and hope within our community.”
Once removed, the flowers will be available to collect by sponsors, as a keepsake. Sponsors will also receive a special card to commemorate their special person.
Collection dates: Tuesday June 13, 4-7pm; Thursday June 15, 4.30pm-7.30pm; Saturday June 17 10am-2pm.
