VIDEO: THE M62 motorway was closed in both directions near Winwick this morning after a collision between two heavy goods vehicles.
Emergency services were at the scene struggling to release the driver of one vehicle who was trapped.
The crash was on the eastbound carriageway, but the westbound carriageway was also closed to allow an air ambulance to land.
Fire engines from Birchwood, Stockton Heath and Greater Manchester were at the scene and paramedics were assessing the condition of the trapped driver before firefighters could release him.
The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to Wynthenshawe Hospital via air ambulance with what is believed to be serious injuries.
The westbound carriageway was quickly reopened, however eastbound remains closed.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route if possible. There are diversions in place, however drivers are being advised that there are delays in the surrounding areas.
