St. Rocco’s Hospice has announced the appointment of the Venerable Roger Preece, Archdeacon of St. Helens and Warrington to its Board of Trustees, with a view to assuming the role of Chair in the Autumn.

Roger, who has been Archdeacon since December 2015, has a breadth of experience to bring to the St. Rocco’s Board. Prior to entering the priesthood he had a successful business career spanning senior roles in a range of international banks, as well as being one of the founders of international management consultancy firm, Capco.

In 2003 he changed direction completely, going to Oxford University to complete a Degree in Theology and eventually becoming vicar at St. Mary’s, Bowdon. He is now part of the senior leadership of Liverpool Diocese, overseeing all the Church of England parishes in Warrington, St Helens and Widnes.

He is a Director of a new Multi Academy Trust for the Diocese and is a trustee of the Board of Finance.
He also has experience in the charity/social enterprise sector, having been a Trustee of Imperial College Trust, and a founding trustee and eventually Chair of Springboard for Children, an inner-city literacy support organisation.

St. Rocco’s Hospice has been caring for those in the Warrington community with a terminal illness for over 30 years. It is a registered charity and, whilst receiving some funding through the NHS, over two thirds of the £3.6 million annual running costs are met through fundraising and the generosity of local people.

Current Chair of Trustees at St. Rocco’s, Norman Banner, who will complete his term of office in the Autumn said,  “We are very excited to welcome Roger to the Board of Trustees. Both professionally and as a Warrington resident, he has a keen interest in the work of St. Rocco’s. We feel sure that he will make a very positive contribution to the hospice.”

“St Rocco’s is an organisation that unites hundreds of volunteers and thousands of supporters in a work that cares for people when they most need it. I am looking forward to being part of this special community of medical, nursing and support staff and volunteers at the heart of Warrington life,” said Roger.
