Homes plan approved at third time of asking

PLANNING bosses have given the go-ahead to a controversial plan to build 66 houses at Warrington after hearing the developers had agreed to pay for a pedestrian crossing nearby.
The development will take place on the site of the former St Oliver Plunkett RC Primary School at Birchwood.
It was the third time the scheme had come before the borough council’s development management committee – the two previous hearings having been deferred because of concerns over road safety in Admirals Road.
Birchwood Town Council had also lodged an objection on similar grounds.
The school closed in 2003 and site is now mostly grassland, with a number of trees and some hardstanding.
The developers plan to build 32 two bedroom terraced properties, eight two bedroom semi-detached, 23 three bedroom semi-detached, two three bedroom terraced properties and one three bedroom detached house.  All would be of two storeys and a play area is included in the proposals
The pedestrian crossings is thought necessary to provide a safe route for pupils going to Birchwood High School.

  1. Seems such a shame to allow this development take place! As a former pupil of st Oliver Plunketts and resident of linnet grove I wonder at the thought that a new pedestrian crossing is really all it takes for the local council to give the go ahead? I regularly return to shop in birchwood and upon a recent trip down memory lane noticed that chatfield school had closed aswell! So my question is where does the council propose the potential 150+ children from this new estate receive their junior schooling?
