Garden transformation for Woolston Hall Residents

STAFF from Birchwood’s International Nuclear Service (INS) gave residents at Woolston Hall retirement living complex in Warrington a free garden transformation.

INS approached Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT), who own and manage the retirement housing, offering to donate a day from their staff members as part of a corporate commitment to volunteering and local community investment.

Gill Lowe, Legal Administrator from INS, said: “We were looking for a project that would benefit the local community where we could give our time and effort and maybe expertise to provide help to someone who needed it.

Woolston Hall was the perfect project as we could make a difference in one day, and the residents had a garden they could enjoy.”

Over the course of the day the team replanted the flower beds, installed a bird table, sanded and painted a bench and overhauled the raised beds.

The residents were over the moon with what was achieved. Resident Joyce said: “I can’t believe how hard they worked and how much they achieved in just one day. They have made such a difference to our communal garden making it a colourful space we can all enjoy. We cannot thank them enough.”

Vikki Jones, GGHT Community Investment Officer, said, “The staff from INS worked so hard to transform the communal garden and it was fantastic to see how much the residents appreciated their hard work.”

The project also benefited from donations of flowers from Moss Bank Nurseries along with hanging baskets and a bird table from INS. Aggregates, compost and bark were covered by the GGHT Community Fund.
