Planners to take second look at housing scheme

A PLAN for 66 new houses on the site of a former school at Birchwood is to come before Warrington planners for a second time.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee deferred the application at the first time of asking because of traffic fears.
But on Wednesday they will be asked to look at the scheme again – and officers are recommending it be approved.
The proposals, put forward by MCI Developments Ltd involve the site of the former St Oliver Plunkett RC School, which closed in 2003. They are opposed by Birchwood Town Council.
The site is now mostly grassland, with a number of trees and some hardstanding.
It is proposed to build 32 two bedroom terraced properties, eight two bedroom semi-detached, 23 three bedroom semi-detached, two three bedroom terraced properties and one three bedroom detached house.  All would be of two storeys and a play area is included in the blueprint.
Birchwood Town Council says a pedestrian crossing should be installed on Admiral’s Road to ensure a safe route to Birchwood High School.
