Blazing bin wagon forces road closure

FIRE crews tackled a blaze involving a bin wagon at Lymm early today.
The fire was in Cherry Tree Avenue, at its junction with Cherry Lane shortly before 6am.
Cherry Lane was closed to traffic while firefighters tackled the blaze using a main jet and a hose reel jet.
The fire was in the back of the lorry and involved recycled materials and crews used a ladder to access the seat of the fire.
Burning materials were dragged out onto the road and hosed down and a thermal imaging camera was used to check the vehicle for hot spots.
Cherry Lane is a one-way street at this point and the road closure prevented nearby residents from leaving for work and also prevented customers from reaching the nearby Co-op store.
Two fire engines were called to the scene.
In a separate incident, fire fighters were called to Alexandra Road, Stockton Heath, to extinguish a small fire in woodland.
