Police seek women after town centre distraction theft

POLICE have today released CCTV images of two women they would like to speak to following a distraction theft in Warrington town centre.
At about 3.45pm on Monday March 27 the victims, an elderly couple, withdrew a large quantity of cash from Lloyds Bank in Golden Square.
After withdrawing the cash they left the bank to go shopping and were followed by two women.
The women followed the couple as they shopped in a number of stores, before distracting them in Marks and Spencer’s at approximately 4.20pm and taking the cash from the victim’s bag.
One of the victims, a man in his 80s, noticed at the cash had been taken and attempted to chase one of the women, following her to Warrington Central train station, where the woman got into a taxi and left the scene.
The woman is described as about 5’ 2” tall, of slim build with short light hair. She had an Eastern European accent and was wearing a white cotton hat, a dark jacket and dark trousers.
The second woman was of stocky build and tall. She had grey hair and was wearing black glasses and a black bobble hat.
PC Phil Collier said: “We are currently following a number of enquiries in relation to this incident and I’m keen to speak to anyone who recognises the women in the CCTV image.
“I’m also keen to trace the taxi driver who collected the women from the taxi rank at Warrington Central Station shortly after 4.30pm on Monday March 27.
“The victims in this case have been left upset and shaken as a result of the incident and I urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Warrington.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 616 of 27/3/2017. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. shouldn’t be too difficult to find them. the top one has a great big moustache like the 118 guys and the second looks like one of those scary clowns that were hanging around a while back.

  2. How awful and these people need catching and locking up for what they have done. If the CCTV images are from the Golden Square or M&S etc then they clearly need to upgrade their cctv system as yet again we are seeing awful cctv still images that to be honest make it almost impossible for anyone to recognise the perpetrators.

Here’s hoping all the taxi drivers in the Central Station area at the time check their cabs cctv in case they are the driver who picked one of them up (all cabs have cctv fitted now) as those images should be much better…although not necessarily easily matchable to the naff ones as proof.

    Just a thought though…don’t all taxi’s have to be pre-booked ?

  3. not if they are on a rank outside the station dizz. They just wait there for passengers who would find it difficult to pre-book due to the varying times of train arrivals.

    • Ahh thanks for that Evils. I was under the impression all had to be pre-booked now but yes like you say that would be difficult for train users. Silly me….
