Music – Saturday 6 May (7.30pm) – Walter Trout

Walter Trout plays earth-shattering blues rock music and was once voted the sixth best guitarist ever in a BBC Radio listeners’ poll.

“He enjoys rave reviews, has topped the blues chart with the all-star albums Full Circle and The Outsider, and now has his sights set on Warrington’s Parr Hall.

His live shows are mesmerising, his guitar technique is dazzling and his rapport with fans ranges from funny to intense.

Even a liver transplant and extensive rehabilitation couldn’t stop him and the esteemed blues-man now feels strong enough to resume his career of fifty plus years.

Comedy – Saturday 6 May (8.00pm) – Comedy Store

Roll up, roll up! Sell-out comedy returns to Pyramid with the best in live stand-up from our friends at The Comedy Store.

But hurry – it sells out fast! The Comedy Store continues its residency at Pyramid presenting the best in stand-up from around the globe and showcasing the brightest names of comedy talent. The shows run on the first Saturday of each month, don’t miss out!

Music – Saturday 13 May (7.00pm) – The Lancashire Hotpots – Food Glorious Food

The Lancashire Hotpots love a good feed and their new show Food Glorious Food showcases all their favourite songs about grub.

As well as classics such as Shopmobility Scooter and I Fear Ikea, the lads will be piling on the comedy calories with songs about late night kebabs, fussy eaters and everyone’s favourite, a chippy tea! Forget Weightwatchers and join the Hotpots for a night of madcap music and laughs.

Dance – Sunday 14 May (2.30pm) – Vienna Festival Ballet presents Cinderella

Vienna Festival Ballet is proud to present the classic tale of Cinderella, one of the best-known rags-to-riches fairy tales of all time.

A mistreated young girl, a glass slipper, two comical ugly step-sisters and a handsome prince combine to make the perfect piece of story-telling.

Vienna Festival Ballet’s production of Cinderella is based on the traditional story but is a combination of pure classical dancing with a touch of pantomime.

Music – Friday 19 May (8.00pm) – Shakin’ Stevens – Echoes of Our Times Tour

Shakin’ Stevens’ Echoes of Our Times Tour is his biggest ever in the UK, visiting 33 towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales, and is named after his critically-acclaimed 12th studio album.

With 33 hit singles and four UK No 1s to his name, the Platinum-selling entertainer and performer will be exciting his audiences as he performs new tracks along with classic hits and a few surprises.

Music – Friday 26 May (7.00pm) – KT Tunstall

Brit Award and Ivor Novello Award-winning singer KT Tunstall is returning to Parr Hall as part of a 2017 tour to showcase her new album KIN – she was recently honoured further with the Inspirational Artist gong at the Women in Music Awards.

The new album has been described as “full-bodied and full-blooded” and was released to rave reviews, debuting at No. 7 on the official UK Album Chart.

It follows previous critically-acclaimed albums Eye to the Telescope, Drastic Fantastic, Tiger Suit and Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon.

NEW AND ONGOING EXHIBITIONS

Community Art – Until Saturday 6 May (All Day) – What Matters?

What Matters? brings together work from two very different age groups and shows how creativity can aid health and wellbeing for people whatever their age.

Art in Life, a group of mature individuals who came together as a group just over a year ago, came together with children who attend after school classes at BloomingArt.

By exploring their inner artist and using the canvas as a tool for expression, interesting and personal art was produced, illustrating what matters to them.

Art – Until Saturday 17 June (All Day) – Interpret

This is a showcase of work by young contemporary artists who are completing a range of art and design courses at Warrington Collegiate.

Responding to the theme of Warrington, the students’ creations reflect their perspective on the town’s changing identity.

The art on show illustrates the individuality of the students and the diversity of talent, from those at the beginning of their creative journeys to those who are soon to progress to higher education.

Exhibition – Ongoing (All Day) – Roots Between the Tides

Clair Le Couteur believes Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, one of the world’s oldest municipal museums in the UK, has a unique and unusual story which deserves to be celebrated.

The artist and composer’s Roots Between the Tides is a combination of sculpture, diagram and catalogue which celebrates this – it is a network of about 200 images of the building, its archives and the town, suspended in the centre of the ethnology gallery to create a striking and interactive installation.

Crafts – Saturdays 6, 13, 20 and 27 May (1-3.00pm) – Crafternoons at the Museum

Warrington Museum & Art Gallery runs free craft activities for kids every Saturday from 1pm. There’s something different to try at the museum every week with this month’s themes including scarecrow hats, I am Groot and Pirates of the Caribbean. Last admission is at 2.45pm – all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Crafts – First Saturday in the month (10.00am-11.30am) – Crafty Saturdays

Join us for free family crafts for children and their grown-ups. On the first Saturday of every month we deliver craft sessions, making a different crafty creation to take home.

Crafts – Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays (10.00am-3.00pm) – Craft activities for kids

Free craft activities are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays between 10am and 3pm, with last admission at 2.45pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult and no booking is required. The dates for the May/June half term are Tuesday 30 May, when children will be able to create dinosaurs, and Thursday 1 June, when cave painting will be the theme.

Exhibition – Saturday 29 April – Thursday 1 June (All Day) – Paint it Black: Film Noir

Paint it Black: Film Noir is a photographic exhibition inspired by the classic Hollywood movie genre which will tour five of Warrington’s libraries.

The retro images will be inspired by these highly stylised black and white films which are so evocative of mystery and intrigue with their dimly-lit nightscapes and smoky silhouettes.

A series of film noir screenings (The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Killers, The Big Heat and Touch of Evil) will run alongside.

This multimedia exhibition demonstrates the diverse range of activities available in the borough’s libraries and highlights their importance as community hubs.

Display – Saturday 29 April – Saturday 1 July (All Day) – Warrington Noir

Warrington Noir will complement Paint it Black with a small display exploring the twin themes of cinema and crime in Warrington during the film noir period of the 1940s and 1950s.

Contemporary Art – Saturday 6 May – Saturday 15 July (All Day) – Louise Giovanelli

Featured as one to watch by Saatchi Art, Louise Giovanelli is an emerging artist whose haunting yet beautiful work is an examination of the sensorial possibilities of paint.

One approach Louise takes is to appropriate and re-imagine details from pre-existing artworks, identifying interesting quirks or peculiarities and then re-configuring them through paint.

In this way painting is used as a camera, drawing attention to details that would otherwise be left overlooked or unexplored.

Exhibition – Saturday 20 May – Saturday 16 September (All Day) – Predators

The world’s fiercest animals have been spotted on the prowl in Warrington! Explore Dr Herringbone’s Predatorium in this new exhibition at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, featuring specially-selected artefacts, taxidermy and artwork from the museum’s collection.

This family-friendly display will give visitors a chance to discover interesting and unusual facts about nature’s top hunters in a new and refreshing way. From the guts and gore of the hunt to the grossness of animal dung, Predators promises to fascinate old and young alike.

Display – Thursday 25 May – Saturday 2 September (All Day) – Borough Charter Display

In 1847 Queen Victoria granted Warrington a Charter, formally making it a borough, and in that year our modern town was born.

To celebrate the 170th anniversary of this important event there will be a rare opportunity to see the original document.
