WARRINGTON’S new look Brickfields Park will be officially opened today following a £180,000 transformation.

Cllr Tony Higgins, the borough council’s lead member for culture, leisure and community will be there with Warrington Wolves mascot Wolfie.

The project has seen a major rejuvenation of the park off Orford Lane.

A complete upgrade of the park has seen a new outdoor gym and a new older children’s play area provided and the replacement of the younger children’s play area.

It also features a fenced, dog exercise area – and existing park furniture is sparkling once more after being repainted.

Cllr Higgins said: “We continue to revitalise our parks and green spaces, and this is the latest success story. The transformation of Brickfields Park will bring huge benefits for local people for many years to come.

“These improvements have been much needed in the community for some time, so it’s great news that the works have now been completed and the new look park is ready to be used and enjoyed by hundreds of local children and families.”

The borough council has provided £130,000 for the project, with grant funding of £50,000 being awarded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund. The works, delivered by contractor Wicksteeds Leisure began in January.

Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to children and families groups across Warrington. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
