POLICE are appealing for witnesses following the fire which destroyed the former Bayleaf Indian restaurant in Harpers Road, Warrington.
At around 6pm on Tuesday 28 March emergency services attended a fire at the empty premises which used to be known as the Bayleaf restaurant.
It is believed the fire was started deliberately and police and fire officers are investigating.
Witnesses saw two young boys running away from the scene at the time of the fire. They were seen heading toward Station Road South.
One is described as aged between 12 and 13, around 5ft 3ins tall with fair short hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
The second is described as aged around 14 to 15 and 5ft 7ins tall, with short dark hair. He was also wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.
PC Kartikay Agravat said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area between 5pm and 6.10pm.
“Was there anyone hanging around before the fire had started? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously after the fire had started?
“If you have any information that could help us with our enquiries I would urge you to contact police on 101.”

‘kids’ were initially suspected of setting light to Mr Smith’s, dragged through court and then released without charge. The real culprits never having been found.
Due to the high incidence of ‘spontaneous combustion’ in Warrington & countrywide since the laws regarding safe removal of asbestos were tightened. I think one of the first questions the police should ask would be; “was there asbestos in this building?”
