Homes plan held up by traffic fears

A PLAN for 66 new houses on the site of a former school at Birchwood has been deferred by Warrington planners – because of traffic fears.
The proposals, put forward by MCI Developments Ltd involves the site of the former St Oliver Plunkett RC School, which closed in 2003, are opposed by Birchwood Town Council.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee decided to defer consideration of the application for more information about traffic implications.
The site is now mostly grassland, with a number of trees and some hardstanding.
It is proposed to build 32 two bedroom terraced properties, eight two bedroom semi-detached, 23 three bedroom semi-detached, two three bedroom terraced properties and one three bedroom detached house.  All would be of two storeys and a play area is included in the blueprint.
Birchwood Town Council says a pedestrian crossing should be installed on Admiral’s Road to ensure a safe route to Birchwood High School.

  1. If the proposed development site was that of a former school, how did MCI Developments Limited manage to gain possession for them to plan to build on it?

  2. It’s not before time that new homes were built in Birchwood. Having grown up children who want to remain where they have grown up I only hope that there is more plans to expand the area with more build projects!!!
